Update: Police Arrest 65-Year-Old Roselle Man Accused of Attempted Bank Robbery in Elizabeth

City police have arrested a 65-year-old Roselle man in connection to the attempted robbery of an Elizabeth bank this morning.

Officers were dispatched to the Wells Fargo Bank, located at 68 Broad Street, Elizabeth, at 11:25 a.m. after a bank employee fled the premises to alert authorities of a possible bank robbery in progress.

Patrol officers were immediately dispatched to the bank and arrived quickly. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a back room behind the teller’s window where bank employees last saw the suspect.

Officers searched the bank and found the suspect in the back room.

The suspect, only described as a 65-year-old Roselle resident, was positively identified by bank employees.

Police added, that the suspect -who was not armed - hurdled the bank counter and safety glass in an attempt to get to the bank drawers.

The incident is currently under investigation by Detective’s from the Elizabeth Police Department, along with Special Agent’s from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Newark Field Division.
