A tragic overnight crash claimed the life of a Plainfield man early Wednesday morning along Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County, authorities said.
According to the New Jersey State Police, troopers were dispatched at approximately 2:13 a.m. to the westbound lanes of I-78 near milepost 21.8 in Clinton Township following reports of a serious motor vehicle accident.
Preliminary findings indicate that a Hyundai Kona traveling westbound veered off the roadway to the left, struck a tree, overturned, and became engulfed in flames.
The driver, identified as 49-year-old Isaiah Hunter of Plainfield, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
No further details have been released at this time.
