UPDATE: Person Questioned for Edison Gas Station Murder Not Suspect Police say

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Thomas Bryan of the Edison Police Department said that authorities are still searching for the suspect involved in the fatal shooting of a man at the Speedway Gas Station in Edison early this morning.

Earlier today the Perth Amboy Public Information Officer announced that their officers arrested a potential suspect connected to the murder then turned them over to Edison authorities.

Middlesex County authorities said while someone was being questioned regarding the fatal shooting at the Speedway Gas Station in Edison, he has been released from custody.

The suspect remains at large and is described as a male of slight build wearing light colored pants, possibly jeans, a maroon colored hooded sweatshirt, mask and gloves.

Edison Township Police responded to the Speedway Gas Station, at 4:02 a.m. where they found the 38-year-old victim, John Bertram of Fords.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect entered into the gas station and held up the clerk with a handgun.

The victim handed the cash register drawer containing currency to the suspect; after which the suspect fired one shot, killing the victim.

The investigation is active and continuing.
