A man was killed late Friday night after being struck by a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail train near the Garfield Avenue Station, according to New Jersey Transit Police.

Authorities said the incident occurred just before midnight on August 8, when a light rail vehicle departing West Side Avenue at 11:48 p.m. and bound for Exchange Place at 12:24 a.m. fatally struck an adult male trespasser on the tracks.
One of the 25 passengers aboard, along with the train operator, was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Following the crash, service was halted in both directions between Garfield Avenue and West Side Avenue. NJ Transit later confirmed that service has since resumed.

New Jersey Transit Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
