UPDATE: Pedestrian Collision in Newark Claims Life of 80-Year-Old Man

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, has reported a grievous vehicle-pedestrian collision in Newark that resulted in the death of a senior man.

NinoThe Essex County Prosecutor's Crime Scene Investigations Bureau (CSIB) is currently investigating the incident.

Accoridng to a statement released by Spokesman Robert Florida, on the evening of December 31, at approximately 8:39 p.m., Newark police were alerted to a collision at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Irvine Turner Boulevard.

The pedestrian involved, 80-year-old Mr. Eugene Thacker of Newark, was urgently transported to University Hospital.

Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Mr. Thacker was pronounced dead at 9:42 p.m.

The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and was reportedly unharmed.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active.
