Update: Paterson House Explosion Iniures Firefighters

Authorities remain at the scene of a natural gas explosion that caused damaged to as many as 15 homes.

A resident dialed 911 at 9:01 a.m. reporting an odor of gas. The explosion which occurred just before 9:30 a.m. at 16 Goshen Street was completely reduced to rubble along with the neighboring home.

According to officials, a third home will have to be torn down and while two others will have to be evaluated.

There were no report of injuries among residents of the damaged home but a total of fifteen firefighters were taken to the hospital for ruptured eardrums, and swelling in the ears. 

A total of 38 people were displaced by the explosion, according to the mayor of Paterson.

The incident remains under investigation.
