UPDATE: Ongoing Investigation into Newark Imam's Murder: No Homicide Charges Yet

Essex County authorities are currently investigating the murder of an Imam in Newark, amidst a flurry of social media rumors regarding the arrest of a family member.Ad Newark Police said at approximately 6:16 a.m. January 3rd, Newark Police responded to an emergency call at the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Camden Street, where a male was reportedly shot.

The victim, later identified as Imam Sharif, was urgently transported to University Hospital, which was only a short distance away.

Despite the efforts to save him, Sharif tragically passed away just around 1 p.m. 

Arrest

Contrary to these arrest rumors, officials have clarified that no one has been connected to the homicide at this stage.

In a recent development, a statement from Spokesman Robert Florida revealed that three individuals, including Mr. Abdush K. Sharif, 36, who is believed to be related to the deceased Imam, were arrested on January 26th.AdTheir arrest at a Newark residence was on charges unrelated to the homicide: a 4th-degree Violation of Regulatory Provisions Relating to Firearms.

County Prosecutor’s official have not confirmed if this weapon was used in the murder. 

Spokesman Robert Florida said Sharif, along with Mr. Kevin Rogers, 46, are currently held in the Essex County Correctional Facility, awaiting detention hearings.

The third individual, Mr. Dashawn Kinchen, 49, was released on a summons.

As the investigation into Imam Hassan Sharif's homicide continues, authorities emphasize that none of the arrested men have been officially charged with the murder.Ad The case remains an active and ongoing inquiry, with Essex County law enforcement diligently working to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.
