UPDATE: Officer Injured in Newark Police Pursuit; Suspects Arrested

A police officer suffered injuries during a pursuit of a vehicle in Newark's South Ward on Monday night.

According to preliminary reports, police began to chase the vehicle after the driver refused to pull over for a felony police stop.

Police say the driver of the car sped around the city's Central and South Ward before the suspect crashed in the vicinity of 439 Clinton Avenue at approximately 11:49 p.m.

Police say shortly before the collision, the driver rammed two NJ State Police vehicles that were assisting Newark Police in the pursuit. At least one civilian vehicle was damaged during the incident, according to police.

The suspects bailed from the car but were captured by police a short distance away.

An officer and one of the suspects was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
