UPDATE: NJIT Student Killed by Hit-and-Run Car in Newark

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and New Jersey Institute of Technology Police Chief Joseph Marswillo announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a fatal hit and run that resulted in the death of NJIT student Naomi R. Segura, 25, of Byram Township.

Officials say at approximately 9:20 p.m. the victim, a pedestrian, was struck in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Summit Street in Newark.

Police say she sustained life threatening injuries, was rushed to University Hospital, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

Police say Segura was pronounced dead at 1:10 today.

The car that struck her did not stop. The driver of a second car did stop and called for help according to police.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
