UPDATE: NJ Transit Engineer Suffered Minor Injuries After Fatally Striking Trespasser in Metuchen

A fatal train strike that happened early this morning in Metuchen had the engineer of a train suffer minor injuries.

NJ Transit Officials say at approximately 6:30 a.m. train 3701 on the North East Corridor Line departed New York at 5:41 am and was scheduled to arrive at Jersey Avenue at 6:33 a.m. when it fatally struck a male trespasser at the Metuchen Station.

Officials say there is no approximate age of the trespasser at this time.

The North East Corridor train service was suspended between Metropark and Trenton in both directions.

There were approximately 60 passengers on board this train who are being provided with bus service to their destinations officials said.

One person on board the train, the engineer, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. NJTPD and EMS responded to the scene.
