UPDATE: NJ Man Sentenced to Prison for Hit-and-Run That Killed Pedestrian Using Walker

Authorities in Middlesex County announced that Hansel Farrier-Romero, 30, of Perth Amboy, was sentenced in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on August 7, 2022.AdMiddlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone stated on August 7, 2022, at approximately 8:29 p.m., authorities responded to the intersection of Convery Boulevard and Pfeiffer Boulevard following the report of a white Dodge Charger that fled the scene after fatally striking an older male.

Authorities say the older male was identified as Rocco Chirichillo, 72, of Perth Amboy, who was crossing the roadway using a walker.

Upon their arrival, authorities located Chirichillo, who had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, officials stated.

An investigation was conducted by the Perth Amboy Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, which determined that Hansel Farrier-Romero, 30, of Perth Amboy, was the driver of the white Dodge Charger that struck and killed Mr. Chirichillo and then fled the scene, officials say.Ad According to officials, Farrier-Romero was arrested later that day and charged with second-degree Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash, Resulting in Death.

Officials said on June 16, 2023, Farrier-Romero pled guilty to second-degree Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash Resulting in Death and was subsequently sentenced on January 16, 2024, by Superior Court Judge Thomas Abode, J.S.C., to 7 years in New Jersey State Prison.
