A tragic act of gun violence has devastated a NJ neighborhood after a mother and her teenage daughter were found shot to death inside their West State Street, Trenton home.

According to information released by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, authorities were called to a residence on the 300 block of West State Street just after 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

The 911 caller reported two individuals who appeared to be deceased inside the home.

When Trenton Police and members of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force arrived, they made a heartbreaking discovery. A 13-year-old girl was found lifeless in a third-floor bedroom, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.

Just feet away, officials said her 40-year-old mother was located on the stairwell leading to the same floor, also fatally wounded.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators from the Homicide Task Force are working alongside local police to determine the circumstances surrounding the double homicide.

No arrests have been reported, and authorities have not released details regarding a possible motive.

This devastating incident has sent shockwaves through the community as residents grapple with the loss of two lives—one just beginning and the other a mother now silenced.

Officials urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the case with assistance from the Trenton Police Department.
