UPDATE: NJ-Based Ferrarini USA Addresses Prosciutto Recall Following Media Inquiry

Secaucus

Ferrarini USA, Inc., headquartered in Secaucus, has issued a clarification regarding its recent recall of approximately 70 pounds of imported prosciutto, following an inquiry from RLS Media.

The recall, initially reported by RLS Media earlier this week, involved ready-to-eat sliced Prosciutto di Parma products that were not presented for the mandatory U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) import reinspection.

The affected product, identified by lot code “2527642,” was distributed in 4-ounce vacuum-sealed plastic trays labeled “FERRARINI PROSCIUTTO DI PARMA PRODUCT OF ITALY.”

These items were shipped to retail locations in California.

The issue came to light when a federal establishment notified the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) that the product had been shipped without undergoing the required import reinspection.

In response to RLS Media’s request for information, Spokesman Mr. Fabio Bartolo emphasized that the recall was prompted by a logistical oversight during the import process.

Company officials said in the statement that while the product successfully cleared U.S. customs and met all European safety and quality certifications, including the stringent standards for Prosciutto di Parma Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), it was inadvertently released from the warehouse before undergoing final FSIS import reinspection—a procedural step required for all imported meat products entering the U.S.

Ferrarini USA assured customers, distributors, and retail partners that the product is fully compliant with all European Union health and safety regulations and was not compromised in any way.
