UPDATE: NJ Attorney General to Investigate Fatal Police Involved Shooting During Domestic Dispute in Morris Township

The Attorney General’s Office is conducting an investigation of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 4:19 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on Fairchild Avenue in Morris Township when police responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance.

Offcials said one male civilian sustained fatal injuries during the encounter.

The investigation is being conducted by the Integrity Bureau within the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability.

This investigation is being conducted pursuant to a law enacted in January 2019, P.L.2019, c.1, which requires that the Attorney General’s Office conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released by the Attorney General at this time.
