UPDATE: Newark's North 5th Street Gunshot Victim Dies

Authorities from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office have confirmed that male shot on North 5th Street has lost his fight to live.

Officials have not released the victim's name at this time, but according to their report, Newark Police officers responded to report of shots fired that rang out in the 50's block of North 5th Street -near Dickerson- at approximately 8:10 p.m. Friday.

Police say when officers arrived at the scene, they found the unconscious, unresponsive and unidentified victim severely injured after a suspect fired rounds in his directions that struck hit.

This victim was transported to University Hospital where he died sometime shortly after.

According to police, about 15 minutes after the shooting on North 5th Street, Clara Maass Hospital officials alerted police of a male walk-in victim who also suffered bullet wounds.

Police say this victim was possibly struck at 11th Street and 4th Avenue where officers found a blood trail and other evidence. This victim has a non-life threatening hand injury.

Police officials said Friday night ended with four people shot. Police say this includes a 13-year-old boy after gunfire erupted just outside West Side High School in the city's West Ward at around 9:22 p.m.

The shootings remain under investigation.
