UPDATE: Newark Teen Found Shot Dead in Crashed Car

Authorities in Essex County reported that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating a fatal shooting in Newark yesterday that left a 17-year-old boy dead and an adult male injured. 

According to officials, on Thursday, August 17, at about 6:30 p.m., Newark police officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident and a possible shooting on the 600 block of South 20th Street in Newark.

Arriving officers located two individuals suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Officials said that the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:52 p.m.

The adult male was transported to University Hospital and treated for injuries.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

No arrests have been made.
