UPDATE: Newark Teen Arrested for East Newark Armed Robbery

Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schillari is releasing the following information regarding the arrest of a juvenile wanted in connection with an armed robbery on Sunday morning:

On Sunday, May 12, the Harrison Police Department contacted the Hudson County Sheriff’s K9 Unit seeking assistance tracking a suspect who fled on foot after committing an armed robbery. Officials said that two other suspects fled the scene in a stolen, black Honda Accord, striking an East Newark Police vehicle along the way.

According to reports, the Hudson County Sheriff’s K9 unit deployed their Bloodhound team and patrol K9 team to the scene and was able to successfully locate one of the suspects hiding under a porch in the backyard of a nearby residence. The 17-year-old Newark resident surrendered to authorities without incident.

Officials say that on Monday, May 12, the K9 unit returned to the area to help local authorities search for the handgun used in the robbery. The K9 team was able to locate the gun in the alleyway of a home in the area where the suspect fled on foot.
