UPDATE: Newark Police Seeks Help Identifying Robbery Suspect Who Struck Victim Inside Dollar General

Authorities in Newark request the public’s help in locating the suspect, who struck a victim as she was leaving a discount store without paying for several items on April 8, 2024.AdNewark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said police responded to the incident that occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. at the Dollar General, located in the 100 block of W. Market Street.

The victim confronted the suspect, a Black female, as she was about to walk out of the store with two bags of unpaid items, officials said.

According to officials, when the victim asked the woman to put the bags down, the suspect refused, punched the victim in the face, and left the store with one of the bags.

Officials say the suspect, described as 5’4,” 150 pounds, and 45-50 years old, was wearing a burgundy jacket, white purse,  and blue jeans.

She was last seen in the area of Roseville Avenue and Sixth Avenue, authorities say.
