UPDATE: Newark Police Seek Help Identifying Armed Robbery Suspects

Newark Police are calling for public assistance in identifying two suspects involved in an armed robbery at a local supermarket. The incident occurred on Thursday, February 22, 2024, around 7:15 p.m. in the 500 block of Bergen Street.AdAccording to the police report, two Black male suspects entered the supermarket and demanded cash from the employees at gunpoint.

One suspect, wielding a handgun, forced an employee to the ground, while the other suspect coerced the cashier to open the register.

The duo managed to steal a total of $846.00 from two cash registers before fleeing southbound on Bergen Street from Avon Avenue.

The first suspect is described as about 5’9” tall, with a thin build and medium brown complexion, wearing a ski mask, blue hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and black Nike ACG boots.

The second suspect is approximately 5’6” tall with a stocky build and light complexion, also wearing a ski mask, along with a gray sweatshirt turned inside out, black ski pants, and black and white Nike sneakers.Ad Director Fragé of the Newark Police urges anyone with information about the identity of either suspect to contact the Police Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
