UPDATE: Newark Mother Faces Attempted Murder Charges After Allegedly Stabbing 5-Year-Old Son

A Newark woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with a harrowing incident involving the stabbing of her 5-year-old son, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, announced this evening. 

NinosThe disturbing incident unfolded on Monday, November 6, at around 5 p.m., when Newark police received a distressing report of an injured child in a residence located on the 100 block of Murray Street in Newark.

Responding officers discovered the 5-year-old victim with stab wounds and immediately rushed him to University Hospital, where he is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Officials said Ms. Symona McGhee, 29, of Newark, now faces a litany of charges, including attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and endangering the welfare of a child.

It's important to note that these charges are merely accusations, and McGhee is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
