A Newark resident was killed in a shooting in the city's South Ward late last night.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken charge of the investigation into the incident that has left the local community in shock.
The event took place on around 10:05 pm, when Newark Police were called to the scene in the 200 block of Nye Avenue following reports of gunfire.
According to reports, the gunman fired over a dozen rounds in the direction of the victim.
Upon arrival, they discovered 19-year-old Mr. Al-quanim Za-quil Horne suffering from gunshot wounds.
Horne was quickly transported to University Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after at 10:36 pm.
As of now, the investigation into Horne's death is active and ongoing, with authorities yet to release further details.
