UPDATE: Newark Man Charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder in Newark

Newark -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that Mr. Hassan S. Shoulars, 26, of Newark has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the death of Mr. Avent Holston, 27, of Newark.

According to authorities, Holston was fatally shot on Oct. 28, 2019 in Newark on the 300 block of West Kinney Street.

Officials at Shoulars has been charged with two counts – conspiracy and conspiracy to commit murder.

The investigation, which is being conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force with assistance from the Newark Police, is active and ongoing.

Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
