Police in Newark are looking into a stabbing incident that occurred on Sunday, March 22.

Director Ambrose is praising responding officers and emergency responders for their efforts in saving the victim’s life.

“I’m grateful that the responding officers remained focused and intent on the preservation of life during this incident,” Director Ambrose said.

“While the nation is addressing the health emergency that the Coronavirus has created, one officer proved himself to be both fearless and quick-thinking in saving this victim’s life.”

According to police, at approximately 12:30 p.m., 4th Precinct officers responded to a South 13th Street residence on a call of a stabbing.

The victim intervened in a quarrel between a man and a woman then was stabbed in the abdomen and thigh by the suspect.

A police officer observed that the victim was bleeding profusely from his thigh and immediately applied his Police Division-issued tourniquet to stop the further loss of blood.

The victim was transported to University Hospital where he was treated and reported in stable condition.

“I am pleased that this officer took the initiative and appropriate steps to ensure the preservation of a man’s life, even with the whole world’s attention on the Coronavirus,” Director Ambrose said.

The suspect in this incident remains at-large.
