The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating a tragic shooting incident on the border of Newark and Irvington Township early Saturday morning.
Preliminary findings indicated that the incident took place near the intersection of Columbia Avenue and 18th Avenue at approximately midnight.
Upon officers' arrival, cops encountered an individual found unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from severe gunshot injuries.
Officials said medical professionals pronounced the victim, identified as Mr. Rick Riveros, deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that Mr. Riveros was tragically struck in the face by multiple rounds fired by an armed suspect.
Irvington Township Police are collaborating closely with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office to ascertain the motive behind this senseless act of violence and to potentially identify the responsible party.
Currently, no arrests have been reported in connection with this case.
