UPDATE: Newark High School Student Shot Dead on 14th Avenue

Newark--Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Nasir Clayton of Newark.

Police said on Thursday, at approximately 12:52 pm, Clayton was shot in the 300 block of 14th Avenue.

EMS transported him to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:37 pm yesterday.

Police say Clayton was a student at nearby West Side High School.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

No arrests have been made.
