UPDATE: Newark Gunfire Kills 29-Year-Old East Orange Man; Injures Six Others

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’sOffice Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigation a fatal shooting.

Authorities say, yesterday, 29-year-old John Warren of East Orange was fatally shot in the 700 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Newark at approximately 4:47 p.m.

The other victims from the MLK Blvd shooting was a 58-year-old woman, a 56-year-old woman, a 25-year-old male and a 20- year-old male.

A total of five people sustained gunshot wounds.

A second shooting occurred in the 200 block of South Orange Avenue.

Authorities say in that incident a 57-year-old man was shot in the elbow and a 23-year-old man was shot in the hand and leg.

Those injuries are considered non-life threatening according to authorities.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

At this point, authorities are exploring the possibility that the incidents are related.
