UPDATE: Newark Brothers Killed After Running into Dump Truck on McCarter Highway in Newark

NEWARK –Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a fatal car crash that left two young men dead.

Officials said at approximately 2:25 am today, Thursday, Oct. 1, in the area of McCarter Highway and Lafayette Street in Newark, a black Acura MDX ran into the rear of a dump truck.

The 32-year-old driver of the car survived, but both the front and back seat passengers sustained fatal injuries, according to officials.

The front seat passenger has been identified as Mr. Rodger Narainsammy, 22, of Newark.

Officials said the back seat passenger has been identified as Mr. Robert Narainsammy, 26, also of Newark.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Official said the men are brothers.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Acura ran into the rear of the truck, which was also traveling on McCarter Highway.

The truck driver did not sustain any injuries and remained on the scene.

The investigation is active and ongoing. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed.
