Witnesses the driver of a car that caused a multi-vehicle crash near I-280 in Newark on Thursday morning ran from the scene immediately after the collision.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the vicinity of 1st Street at I-280 to investigate a crash with injuries just before 10:35 a.m.
Units arrived at the scene found three cars involved in a collision that severely damaged the vehicles at that location.
While there were no severe injuries reported, police say one of the drivers ran from the scene and may have entered the Garden Spires Housing complex.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
