UPDATE: Monroe Township Resident Killed, Manalapan Man Injured in Old Bridge Crash

Old Bridge

Authorities in Middlesex County are investigating a violent two-car crash that killed one person and injured another in Old Bridge Sunday morning.

Old Bridge Police officials say, at approximately 2:18 a.m., emergency responders were dispatched to reports of a crash with injuries on Texas Road.

According to police, a preliminary investigation indicated that a silver Nissan Versa that traveled in the westbound lanes of Texas Road failed to negotiate a sharp bend in the road crossing into the eastbound lane of travel.

Authorities said the Nissan then struck a silver Hyundai Elantra driving in eastbound lane head-on.

The Nissan rolled over then burst in flames with the driver trapped inside.

Police say the driver of the Nissan, a 39-year-old man from Monroe Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old male Manalapan driver of the Hyundai suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital.

Police said the roadway is now open and the accident is currently under investigation.
