By: Richard L. Smith

Authorities in Middlesex County reported today that detectives are investigating the death of an East Brunswick woman.

According to Middle sex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on December 22, at approximately 11:09 A.M., authorities received a 911 call requesting a welfare check.

Prosecutor Ciccone said police made multiple welfare checks to the residence on Cozzens Court before locating Ms. Carmen Gordon, 68, of East Brunswick, unresponsive inside her home with fatal injuries. Gordon was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An initial investigation led by Detective Robert Thuring of the East Brunswick Police Department and Detective Kevin Schroeck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office identified Mr. Jason Gordon, 41, of New York, as the perpetrator.

"This was not a random act of violence. Jason Gordon is the son of the victim, Carmen Gordon". -Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone

Authorities charged Gordon with one count of first-degree Murder, one count of third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and one count of fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Prosecutor Ciccone said this is an active and ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Thuring of the East Brunswick Police Department at 732-390-6990 or Detective Schroeck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-4194.

As with all criminal defendants, the charges against Gordon are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
