UPDATE: Man Shot in Newark’s West Ward Dies

The Essex County Prosector’s Office has launched an investigation into a shooting that killed a man in Newark's West Ward on Friday.

In a violent Newark **[shooting spree that left about 15 individuals shot with -now- three male victims dead since October 1st,](https://www.rlsmedia.com/article/newark-police-stretched-thin-responding-multiple-city-wide-shots-fired-incidents)** residents in the vicinity of Mount Vernon Place and Eastern Parkway frantically dialed 911 when armed men repeatedly fired shots at males standing near Mount Vernon Place and Eastern Parkway.

Essex County officials said Newark West Ward Police scrambled to the scene then taped off the area after they found shell casings and a man suffering gunshot injuries at that location.

According to a statement released to RLS Media by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, Mr. Naeem Keaney, 24, suffered fatal injuries resulting from the shooting.

Police say the suspects sped away from the scene in a gray SUV with temporary license plates. That vehicle was found unoccupied in the area of Eastern Parkway and Putnam Street.

There are no arrests reported and the investigation into the shooting is in its early stages.
