UPDATE: Man Shot Dead in Newark Identified

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the fatal shooting of Keshawn Garner, 33, of Newark.

According to authorities, on Wednesday night, just before 8:30 p.m., Garner was shot in the 400 block of 18th Avenue between South 10th Street and Springfield Avenue.

Medics pronounced Garner dead at 9:11 pm at University Hospital.

A second victim, a 31-year-old man, was also shot but survived.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

No arrests have been made.
