UPDATE: Man Sentenced to Prison for Killing, Decapitating Newark Woman

Newark

A man was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison for the killing and beheading of a Newark woman who was found wrapped in a blanket inside a garage in 2015.

According to authorities, James Edwards will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence for the death of 50-year-old Pamela Davis.

Officials say that in October 2015, Davis was reported missing, but her headless body was found approximately a month later on the 800 block of South 11th Street.

According to officials, Edwards and Davis may have had a dispute that caused Edwards to kill her and ultimately attempt to get rid of the body by dismembering her remains.

Police say Edwards remains at the Essex County jail for failing to register as a sex offender.
