UPDATE: Man Killed in Wrong-Way Collision with Tractor Trailer on I-78 in Warren County

NJ State Police have confirmed one fatality in a wrong-way crash that occurred on I-78 in Warren County this morning.

According to a statement released by State Police, a Hyundai sedan drove east in the westbound lanes of Route 78 in Alpha near the toll bridge crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer at around 2:45 a.m.

Police say the driver of the Hyundai, a 22-year-old man, died from his injuries while the passenger inside the vehicle l, a 23-year-old man, was flown to St. Luke’s Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania, with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Officials would not disclose the victim’s identities.

Police say the 24-year-old driver of the truck did not suffer any injuries.

Officials are attempting to determine how the car ended in the wrong directions on the highway.

Police closed all lanes until about 8:30 a.m. for the investigation.
