The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into a shooting that killed a man in Newark's West Ward Sunday evening.
Offcials said at approximately 6:30 p.m., a gunman fired shots at the victim near the Reservoir Housing complex located near the intersection of 14th Avenue and South 9th Street.
Police patrolling the area heard gunfire then found the unidentified victim suffering bullet wounds, according to police.
The victim was pronounced dead a short time later by medical professionals.
According to authorities, the suspect fled the scene and remain at-large.
There were no other injuries reported.
