The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting in Newark that claimed the life of a 38-year-old man on Friday morning.
According to officials, Newark Police received multiple emergency calls around 11:38 a.m. on October 3, 2025, reporting a person shot in front of 94 Spruce Street.
Responding officers later located the victim nearby in front of 735 Martin Luther King Boulevard.
The victim, identified as Jose Rivera of Newark, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:14 p.m.
Authorities say the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains active and ongoing.
