Essex County law enforcement officials are reporting one person was killed in a shooting at a housing complex in Newark North Ward Monday morning.
Police received reports of shots fired at the Riverside Court housing developments in the 40’s block of Riverside just after midnight.
Multiple units arrived and found a male suffering a bullet wound to his chest.
Police say EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead a short time later.
Authorities say a second person suffered a bullet wound to his hand and is expected to recover.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation, and no arrests have been reported.
