UPDATE: Man Killed in Domestic Stabbing in Newark’s North Ward

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is looking into a domestic violence incident that resulted in a deadly stabbing in Newark’s North Ward. 

According to a brief statement released by authorities, shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, Newark Police officers responded to a residence on reports of a stabbing.

Officials said officers arrived and located a male being administered CPR by a female after suffering from an apparent knife wound to his neck.

RLS Media learned that the victim, Mr. George Matias Martinez, 54, of Newark, was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m. 

Sources told RLS Media that a verbal confrontation initiated inside an apartment at the home located in the 90’s block of Parker Avenue.

Mr. Matias Martinez  reportedly engaged in an argument with a woman -his girlfriend- when a 14-year-old girl -her daughter- participated in the encounter then allegedly produced a knife. 

Detectives for The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are trying to determine what exactly happened during the process of the confrontation that ended with Mr. Matias Matinez  being slashed in the neck and losing his life.

Authorities have not reported an arrest at this time and the investigation remains active and ongoing.

UPDATE: A 14-year-old juvenile has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The name of the juvenile is not being released at this time because of the age of the juvenile.
