UPDATE: Man Jumps Out of Window After Domestic Assault in Newark

Authorities in Newark announced the arrest of Mr. Louis Amaro, 35, of Newark, for an incident of simple assault and CDS possession that occurred last night -Thursday-.

According to a statement released by police, at approximately 10:45 p.m., 2nd Precinct officers responded to a North Ward residence on a call of an assault.

Police say upon their arrival they found a woman who reported being assaulted by a man she knew following a quarrel.

According to police, when they attempted to arrest the man, he eluded apprehension by jumping through a window of the apartment, which is on the 3rd floor.

Members of the Newark Fire Division positioned themselves beneath the window and caught the suspect before he made impact with the ground police said.

EMS rushed Amaro to University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries related to the fall where he now remains in stable condition.!

Police charged Amaro with Simple Assault and Possession of CDS (heroin).

Police say he was also found in possession of nine glassine envelopes of CDS heroin.

These charges are merely accusations.

This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
