The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into a shooting that killed a man in Newark on Thursday.
The incident happened just before 11 p.m., in the 300 block of 7th Avenue, where witnesses informed police of an injured person at that location.
Units arrived at the scene and found Mr. Shamar Cohen suffering a gunshot injury to the head.
Authorities say Cohen was rushed to NUniversity Hospital suffering life-threatening injuries but died on Friday.
Thenivestgiation into the motive for the shooting remains active and ongoing.
Police say there were no arrests reported.
