UPDATE: Man Found Dead in Plainfield Park Suffered Gunshot Wound Police Say

The circumstances behind the death of a Plainfield man in a county park Wednesday remain under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan and Union County Police Chief Chris Debbie jointly announced Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Wykil Sherrod Jr., 20, of Oxford Place in Plainfield.

Members of the Union County Homicide Task Force, Union County Police Department, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit responded to Green Brook Park in Plainfield early Wednesday afternoon and found the body of Sherrod near a picnic table. Shortly after that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an autopsy performed Thursday morning by the Office of the Medical Examiner, the cause of Sherrod’s death was listed as a gunshot wound, while the manner of death remains undetermined pending continued investigation.
