UPDATE: Man Chased, Gunned Down in Newark's West Ward Dies in Irvington Township

A shooting that occurred on The Newark-Irvington border left a man dead late Monday night.

Police found the lifeless bullet-riddled body of Mr. Alex Jean, 24, just inches over the Irvington border after a gunman chased him then fired shots that wounded him around 11:38 p.m.

According to officials, the latest homicide is an ongoing issue where shootings that originate in Newark’s West Ward ends in Irvington. Police say is the second homicide and the third shooting -of this type- that occurred this month.

The Essex County Prosecutor said they could not confirm where Mr. Jean resides.

Residents on the Newark-Irvington Border told RLS Media Mr. Jean was bleeding heavily when he fell just at the sign that says,” Welcome to Irvington Township.”

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
