UPDATE: Man Charged with Raping, Robbing Woman Inside Business in Jersey City

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said on Friday, May 12, 2023, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Mr. Elijah Lloyd, 18, of Jersey City, on charges relating to the sexual assault of a 63- year-old woman inside a Jersey City business.

Prosecutor Suarez said Lloyd has been charged with Kidnapping, Aggravated Sexual Assault, Robbery, Terroristic Threats, and Theft. 

According to Prosecutor Suarez, at approximately 8:24 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a 911 call reporting a sexual assault.

The 63-year-old victim reported an unknown male entered a business on West Side Avenue – south of Communipaw Avenue – where he robbed and sexually assaulted her.   

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest and multiple units of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.

She commends Jersey City Police Officers Isaac Holmes and Michael DeBari – both of the Citywide Burglary Unit – for swiftly identifying the defendant during the investigation.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office SVU and the Jersey City Police Department continue actively investigating this case.
