The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed a shooting that killed a male victim and severely injured a second person in Newark's Ironbound section Tuesday night.
According to The Prosecutor's Office, at approximately 7 p.m., a gunman fired multiple rounds of bullets in the direction of two males in the vicinity of 172 Pacific Street, striking both the victims.
Police officers arrived at the scene and found both victims unconscious and unresponsive at that location.
Police say the pair were rushed to University Hospital for treatment, where one of the victims died a short time later.
The second victim is reportedly in critical condition, county officials said.
Officials believe the suspect fled the scene in a blue Ford Explorer that was confirmed stolen at a location in the county.
The motive for the attack is under investigation and the suspect remains at large.
