UPDATE: Kearny Woman Killed in Route 3 Crash in Clifton

Authorities in Passaic County continue investigating a deadly early morning crash on Route 3 in Clifton Thursday. 

Officials said at approximately 4:47 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, police responded to the area of Route 3 West in the City of Clifton in response to a motor vehicle crash involving three vehicles.

Passaic County authorities said the investigation revealed that a Subaru Impreza struck a BMW X3 that had become disabled and was stopped in the roadway.

Following the initial collision, officials said an oncoming Toyota Prius then struck the Impreza broadside.

The driver of the Subaru Impreza, Ms. Karen Garcia, 46, from Kearny, was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Passaic County officials said Mario Cruz-Segovia, 39, Union City, the driver of the Toyota Prius, was also taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

According to Passaic County officials Ahmad Yasir Rennick, 53, from Staten Island, New York, the driver of the BMW X3, was not injured in the collision.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
