UPDATE: Juvenile Severely Stabbed in Newark's Central Ward

In Newark, authorities are looking into the motive behind a stabbing incident that injured a teenaged boy in Newark Central Ward on Saturday afternoon. 

According to an initial investigation, a physical altercation turned violent among teenage boys inside a building at 220 Irvine Turner Boulevard. 

Police received  911 calls from residents who reported pools of blood inside the building then arrived to find the unidentified teen suffering stab wounds at that location. 

Residents say the building lacks proper security and groups of juveniles enter and exit at all times of the day. 

EMS rushed the boy to University Hospital for treatment and as of 7 p.m., The Essex County Prosecutor's Office could not confirm a homicide investigation. 

The incident remains under investigation.
