UPDATE: Juvenile Arrested Following Acid Attack That Injured Six in Jersey City

Jersey City

By: Richard L. Smith

Six people were injured after a juvenile allegedly threw acid into a group of individuals Monday evening in Jersey City, according to a report by ABC7 New York and information released by the Jersey City Police Department.

The incident occurred in the area of Wilkinson Avenue, where police said a group was gathered outside when suspects approached and threw what investigators believe was sulfuric acid before fleeing the scene.

Authorities reported that all six victims suffered burns and skin injuries.

A 21-year-old woman sustained second-degree burns and was transported to a specialized burn center for treatment.

The remaining victims were also taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators believe the assault may have been targeted and could be connected to an earlier dispute involving a large group of people.

A juvenile suspect has since been taken into custody, and police have indicated that additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses.

The incident prompted a significant emergency response, including HAZMAT crews, who assisted in identifying the substance involved and securing the scene.

Anyone with information regarding the attack is urged to contact the Jersey City Police Department as detectives continue their investigation.
