UPDATE: Jersey City Man Arrested in Irvington Following Paterson Police Involved Shooting

Paterson Jersey City Irvington Township

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the filing of charges against Terrance Nelson, 26, of Jersey City.

Authorities arrested Terrance Nelson without incident in Irvington and charged him with one count of third degree Eluding, which carries a maximum term of five years in New Jersey State Prison.

The incident occurred in the area of Cianci and Market Streets in the City of Paterson around 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 31st. An on-duty Paterson Police Officer approached Nelson as part of an investigation in progress.

According to police, Nelson allegedly entered a vehicle and pulled away while refusing police commands to stop. During the encounter, one round was discharged from the officer’s department-issued handgun. A police pursuit then ensued through Paterson and into Irvington where Nelson eventually brought the vehicle to a stop.

There were no injuries sustained by police or civilians, police added.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Shooting Response Team was activated and is handling the investigation pursuant to Attorney General Directives.

The investigation in this matter, including the use of force by police, remains ongoing.

Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
