There is an active investigation underway into the official cause of death for a woman found dead inside a residence in Newark's South Ward on Thursday afternoon.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, police responded to a Sheppard Avenue residence on a call for aid resulting in a deceased woman discovered.
Director Ambrose said at approximately 4:25 p.m. arriving officers located the unconscious and unresponsive 68-year old woman at that location.
Medical personnel responded to the residence to officially pronounce the unidentified woman dead at around 6:45 p.m. Director Ambrose said.
"While there immediately appeared to be no suspicious circumstances, this incident remains under investigation," Director Ambrose concluded.
