UPDATE: Hit-and-Run in Downtown Newark Leaves Woman Fighting for Life

Authorities are investigating a serious hit-and-run that left a woman critically injured in downtown Newark on Thursday night.

According to the Newark Police Division, the incident occurred at approximately 8:55 p.m. on August 14, 2025, near the intersection of The Honorable Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard (Broad Street) and Clark Street. 

The unidentified female victim was transported to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

 

Witnesses reported that the vehicle involved was a large, dark-gray SUV with New Jersey license plates.


 It was last seen traveling westbound on Bloomfield Place after striking the pedestrian and fleeing the scene.

 

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is urging anyone with information about the victim or the collision to call their tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC (1-877-847-7432).
